My residential projects are as varied as the clients themselves and run from victorian drama through eleclectic/functional and on to contemporary.
Attention to detail is formost in my work and I take a hands on approach to involvement in completion of many aspects of a project. As well as developing complete design proposals I am often involved in custom painting techniques, design for furniture, lamp shades and execution of many details that make the spaces that I work on truly unique. My role is not simply specification, but design from the ground up.
When I come to an interior design project my first interest is always the architectural content or lack there of and the basic use or intent of the space. My job is then to listen to the client and engage them in development of a vision so that I can begin the design process. The client's involvement and communication is important to creating a plan that reflects who they are and how they live in a space, the more information I have the better I can apply my talents and design sense to their needs.
Wit and a sense of humor are important elements in creating environments and making them comfortable and inviting. In searching for materials, furnishings and accessories I am always interested in finding items that can be transformed into subtle, or sometimes, not so subtle aspects of a client's project.
I am not serious and rigid by nature and it is not my intent to produce that kind of work. I am not dictatorial and emperical about the nature of designing, which is to say that I will do my best to make your great aunt Eleanor's dress form or your mother's cousin, Marvin's tackle box work somewhere in the plan. If there are requests which constitute "absolutely nots" I will will alert the authorities.
